NeZha Riots the Seas Part 1 of 7 [哪吒闹海] English Subtitled
This animation is about one of the Chinese gods, Nezha. You can tell it’s influenced by opera from the soundtrack. There is another dubbed BBC version, but it excluded the beautiful soundtrack (which is why I chose this one.) It also features the dragon king of the east sea - which we talked about in earlier posts.
Holy crap, this is one of my most favorite animations ever. When I was little my mom got me a box set of Chinese and Japanese animations and I watched this particular video about a bagillion times (the only other one I remember from the set is Panda! Go Panda!), even though I didn’t understand Chinese. (I’m guessing my mom translated it for me. My mom also converted the VHS to DVD after she decided we had to get rid of our VHS tapes. MOMS ARE THE BEST.)
Once while I was at the Flushing Mall in the last year or two, I saw something familiar playing on a TV in the food court. It was undoubtedly this story, but not quite the same. Because … the animation was newer and shittier. (Upon poking around YouTube, it was probably this.) Horror consumed my every fiber.
The video above is just the first of seven parts, so … watch all of ‘em. Beautiful animation and music. And cool fight scenes
