Strata-cut animation blows my mind. (As least, when it’s done by David Daniels.)

As darkness is covering the multiverse, far away in the galaxy of the wild stallion, a spark of hope is born. Guided by the light of Mother Mustang, the Space Stallions must defeat the Demon of darkness, Destructo.
Space Stallions isn’t a real show, but if it were it’d be SUPER AWESOME.
More specifically, this 1980s sci-fi cartoon homage is a bachelor film from The Animation Workshop in Denmark. You can listen to the theme song over and over again at Bandcamp.

I’ve never seen The Thing, but with this two-minute Pingu version, I’ll never have to.
Brought to life by Lee Hardcastle.
Awesome, beautiful, and creepy claymation by Allison Schulnik. Features lots of dark, sunken eye pits, morphing/melting faces and bodies, etc.
Yesterday I found out some of my friends hadn’t seen this animated short by Pendleton Ward and Natasha Allegri—some of the great artists behind Adventure Time—about Pikachu farting. I was all, like, [mouth open, palms firmly planted on sides of face].
Anyway, everyone loves Pikachu farts.
NeZha Riots the Seas Part 1 of 7 [哪吒闹海] English Subtitled
This animation is about one of the Chinese gods, Nezha. You can tell it’s influenced by opera from the soundtrack. There is another dubbed BBC version, but it excluded the beautiful soundtrack (which is why I chose this one.) It also features the dragon king of the east sea - which we talked about in earlier posts.
Holy crap, this is one of my most favorite animations ever. When I was little my mom got me a box set of Chinese and Japanese animations and I watched this particular video about a bagillion times (the only other one I remember from the set is Panda! Go Panda!), even though I didn’t understand Chinese. (I’m guessing my mom translated it for me. My mom also converted the VHS to DVD after she decided we had to get rid of our VHS tapes. MOMS ARE THE BEST.)
Once while I was at the Flushing Mall in the last year or two, I saw something familiar playing on a TV in the food court. It was undoubtedly this story, but not quite the same. Because … the animation was newer and shittier. (Upon poking around YouTube, it was probably this.) Horror consumed my every fiber.
The video above is just the first of seven parts, so … watch all of ‘em. Beautiful animation and music. And cool fight scenes
In the Bag (Disney, 1956) was one of my favorite animated shorts as a kid. (It made me think collecting trash with a pointy stick was fun. KIDS, SO VERY IMPRESSIONABLE.) Watching it now, I don’t understand why Humphrey didn’t just stick the paper in a garbage can. …I suppose because then the cartoon would’ve been boring.
This goat is so badass. DO NOT MESS WITH THIS GOAT.
So yeah. I love this sweet lil’ animated short, “The Goat and the Well,” by Benjamin Cady. It looks simple, but the motions are fantastic.
Also, BADASS GOAT.
“Don’t Hug Me, I’m Scared” is one of my most favorite videos ever. (Warning: It gets fuckin’ weird.)
GREEN IS NOT A CREATIVE COLOR.
See more from This Is It.
“Apache” by Ned Wenlock and Rodney Selby, music by Danger Beach. A sweet and sublime animation with awesome colors and designs and music and the continuously rotating roll makes my brain gooallmushsyyfgghrahrhdssf.
